EE Sitrep

Okay, I finished the rough draft of Enemy of my Enemy yesterday. 520 pages. I added 2 pages of notes today, did a few minor tweaks, then combined it with Wayne's act I version and 28 pages disappeared from the page count. I have no clue where they went. I ran a comparison of the old version and the new and nothing jumped out at me as crossed out.

I'm still scratching my head over that one. But, I plowed ahead and went and spell checked the last 2 acts again.

Anyway, I sent it to the first 4 betas 2 minutes ago. Maybe they can see what I'm missing. I'm a bit bleary eyed and hungry. I am hoping once everyone gets a look I'll be able to send it to Rea before she goes off on her vacation next month. Fingers crossed I can publish it next month!

That is all... for the moment! ;)

  1. Thank you so much. Now if I can only endure the next month until the next fix....

  2. Maybe the margin changed and that's where the pages went.

    1. Gee that sounds familiar doesn't it Chris? I thought the same but apparently it wasn't the case. I know maybe we should get Sherlock Holmes on the case of the missing pages!!

Sorry I have been up for about 36 hours so I am punch drunk right now. And take 15 minutes to type this!!!

    2. Go to bed Duncan!
I went back to the old copy, redid the spell check, applied most of Wayne's corrections manually, and then went and added a few more bits before I passed it off to the betas.

I even got the cover art done, though only Mike Kotcher has commented on it so far.
I'm also punch drunk, but I got 5 hours of sleep. Baby gave me a rude awakening this morning at 4am by barfing all over me. XP
Waaay too much drama this morning. He did that, then I went to the doctor's to get my bloodwork done and a girl wilted and just dropped right in front of Dad's truck as he went to park. Her mother was with her and screamed bloody murder. Sigh.
Going to hibernate away from the crazies and the heat!

    3. I did as soon as I posted. I just woke up. Man Chris, your day sucked almost as much as mine. That 36 period started on what was supposed to be my day off and 5 flipping equipment breakdowns during it. Fortunately 2 were expected so we had part on had. 2 weren't but were (kinda) easy to fix. One still isn't but we can't work on it. Have to get a guy up from OKC (Oklahoma City about 5+ hours away from me in the middle of Kansas.) And of course they either broke down together or right when we were at our busiest. Isn't that always the way?

    4. I am glad we will be getting more insight into the federation from the human side, lately it seems to be neos/ aliens on the fed side and humans/ neos on the horathian side. (Irons being overview, the homefront has been a little sparse on human views, since I don't count Subert as he is a REMF)

And speaking of Mike Kotcher where can we find out about his samair in argos series if we don't like facebook? (I refuse to use it, fyi)

    1. EE just entered the Beta phase. Duncan has finished it but I'm waiting on feedback from the others in phase 1 before I send it off to the phase 2 blokes.
The cover art is done. I haven't gotten much feedback on it yet.
When I get into the phase 2 betas I'll start putting up the cover art and snippets.
I am hoping to get the book out by mid to late July.

Kyryst: I dunno about Minion Mike. I was going to say you could ask him on the FB group but oops! :) I too do not do social media. (beyond this blog)
      I can email him.

How were there Neos on the Horathian side? Do you mean the short stories? I've been trying to balance the Fed side and not have too many humans in it. But it is easier to write from their or a Neo perspective over someone like a Ghasg, Naga, Flea Legger, Veraxin, or one of the other species...

Before anyone asks, I am still debating the next project. Right now I am leaning heavily toward J5.

  4. Chris, curious - a couple of story arcs I THINK you have in mind, but I just wanted to know for sure - or perhaps they are already out in short story, in which case I would like to be vectored to the anthology. First, is there any story about J. Lagroose AFTER he departs for the new colony and its founding? Second, Admiral Iron's children-son and daughter? Final Collapse of the federation and how/why there was that appointment to President of the Federation by name...despite the time traveling element? Finally, is there a short story in the future about Tobias and perhaps the sleeper marine who is now a Capt (but I can't remember the name..augh) Thanks! Looking forward to EE and J5!

    1. Hi DKH,
First: Yes, you are asking about "The Eden Project". I wrote it years ago, right around the same time I wrote First Steps. We've only just gotten to the point where I can release it... after I rewrite it. It should come out in the next Founding anthology later this year. That story and others in that book will set up things in the next founding book: The First Terran Interstellar War. They will also answer a few lingering questions people have asked me.
Second and Third: Both parts of the second question and yes a Tobias story will be answered when we explore the Ragnarok time period. I'm not certain if you are talking about Captain Lyon or Vargess (who is now a Commodore) or someone else.

      Sitrep:
EE is slowly working it's way through the Betas.
I am up to 60 pages in J5. I am 2/3rds done chapter 1 so still getting my feet wet.

  5. Hi Chris, thank you! I am looking forward to all. The person I was talking about was Capt Lyon - you had set up the foundation for a short story or arc in J4, so I was curious.

    2. Imagine what the betas that have read the next story feel like. It kinda sucks sometimes knowing what will happen but not being able to say anything.

This reminds me of a trilogy (Balanced Sword by Ryk E Spoor) where you find out at the end that several very powerful people were working to a plan of the main character that the main character told them about thousands and thousands of years before the main character's birth as a mortal (the mortal becomes the god of the religion of the mortal main character at the end).

I just sent EE off to 2 of the betas. The window is closing for Joshua and Mike.
I want to send the manuscript off to Rea by next week so I can publish it before the end of the month.
