Retribution live TODAY May 14!

A funny thing happened when I went to check my email last night...
Wait, let's back this story up a bit. Okay, see, I've seen the pre-order thing for a bit, and a couple people came to me and said, "Hey, why don't you try it?" I wasn't keen about it since I'd be locked into a release date. If something went wrong I didn't want to get bit in the caboose. But after I sent it to Goodlifeguide I decided to give it a shot.
And that was when the headache began. See, when I uploaded it, you have to choose a date 10 days after the final submission deadline for release. Um... no, that doesn't sound right. Okay, let me try to explain it again. Goodlifeguide said they were backed up and would get the book to me by May 19. I said okay so I had to set the final release date for 10 days after to accommodate that. (it's an Amazon thing)
I was going to add the pre-order link to the blog (I hear it is on the fan group already) today. But low and behold last night (okay caught up to the story) I found Goodlifeguide had finished the reformatting early and sent it back to me last night.
So, I went to upload it this morning, did so... and found out Amazon won't let me release it until May 14th! GRRR! Argth!!! (wringing hands) So, I dunno if I'll be trying this experiment again. I'll hold off on uploading the manuscript to Nook until Friday afternoon.

About:

The Xeno War devastated the Milky Way galaxy over 7 centuries ago. Worlds and entire star systems were gutted in this galactic war. A dark age descended upon the remaining hold out worlds.

But civilization is slowly returning to the Rho sector of the galaxy, and with it a renewal of hope and prosperity once more. Fleet Admiral John Henry Irons has done his best to sow the seeds of civilization, now he is busy as acting President tending to those seedlings as they sprout and begin to grow. With him is a dedicated group of individuals, some from his time before the Xeno War. Rear Admiral Subert has taken his place in Pyrax to oversee things there while Rear Admiral White wields their offensive fleet in the hopes of pushing back the barbarians. Admiral White has had a few successes and a few setbacks, but his small force has not only held its own, it has grown with each reinforcement into a powerful weapon.

Indignant and enraged by their setbacks and losses, the Horathian pirate Empire has finally marshaled its forces. As the Federation clings to life and renewed purpose, a pirate juggernaut is bearing down on it to crush it under its boot once and for all, and with it, any hope of civilization's renewal.

One way or another, Retribution awaits!

EDIT:
Here it is on Amazon:
Here it is on B&N:

I haven't put it up on Smashwords since the older books need to be edited and reformatted.

When it goes live I will update this post with the links to each store. I don't know at this point if I will upload it to Smashwords or not. I've been holding off on putting my entire inventory there since the first 7 books have not been professionally edited or reformatted. (and that costs $$$$$)

Anyway...
In other news, I'm up to 180 pages of Enemy of my Enemy. (Horatio Logan's Adventures 1) I am almost done chapter 6. (I skip around a lot) I shot myself in the foot a couple of times though so it took all day yesterday to clean up 1 mistake. Hopefully I got it all. (That's not related to when I rolled over my pinky toe with the shopping cart April 30th and messed it up. It stopped bleeding and the X-rays said it wasn't broken or dislocated. All better now.)
Oh, I still haven't tried Space Engineers. (Sorry Jory!) I did try Mario Maker and I did watch Jurassic World. lol I still haven't seen The Force Awakens and some of the other movies I've got in my collection... including Deadpool which is coming today.
And I did some character fan art for Pete Abram's Sluggyfreelance. I posted 1 image on my deviantart page. Eventually I'll do an entire strip or 2. If he likes it maybe he'll post it as filler when he needs a break. :)

EDIT: I ran into a screwy problem while writing yesterday. (May 13) I finished a 2 scenes in chapter 12 and went to save and the curser started to jump all over the manuscript and randomly deleted sentences and paragraphs. I freaked and got out without saving. I went back in and all my work was gone, 2+ pages. I'm frustrated and annoyed so I'm holding off on going back in. I dunno if the button got stuck or what? GRR.

That is all!

  1. Honestly, I would not do the Pre-Order any longer as a self publish author. It does not really help you and for the most part it just confines you. It make sense for large authors that uses publishers. It is used to increase awareness and hype around the book launching but by the time the pre-order is established the book is already at the editors and ready to go. It is just being held until the approved release date.

You don't have that issue. In fact due to the good communication you offer through the blog and other media platforms I know the progress and delivery date of a book much faster than any other author I follow. Most of their communication with Fans Suck and a pre-order is a great way to know the book is coming out.

At this point the book is stuck in this limbo state caused by a pre-order that I doubt is even helping that much. At least that is my two sense.

    1. There should be a map on the wiki as well as at the facebook fan group.
I haven't posted the maps for Pi and Tau sector. I don't remember off the top of my head if the entire galactic map has been posted or not. The ones from the Foundation series I doubt...
I did love Deadpool. It reminded me of the raunchy Police Academy and Porky's movies in so many ways. Definitely has the naughty that's just so wrong snicker going for it. Gah! I busted a gut howling at a few scenes. :)

    2. I can't find it on the wiki, and I don't use facebook.
A link would help, it's very confusing trying to follow the battles.

This is the map Mike redid. It is a bit out of date and missing some detail, most noticeably the Hinata, Konohagakure markers are missing.
I'll try to remember to work with Mike to get a revised map or even dig up one of my battle maps sometime.

Hey everyone, reviews of Retribution and the other books will help bump it and them up in Amazon's search priorities! Thank you!

    5. DeadPool, 9 times. Just got the Deadpool BluRay today. Had to watch both commentary tracks, plus all the extras, then watch it again to watch the easter eggs.

  4. Thanks, but that's an older version. I know i'm repeating myself, but this series needs an official map with each book.

    1. Whuups! That is indeed an old map. I've revised and updated Mike Boos' most recent Rho sector map.

One of these days we'll get around to really cleaning up and adding content to the Wiki. Like the galactic sector map...

    3. Sure, go for it.
I only saw Deadpool the 1 time, plus I went back to watch the occasional snippet or 2 and of course all the deleted scenes. I'll watch it again someday.

  5. in the book you are talking about the empire increasing their warship production. do you mean home grown or replicator build?
    with military or civilian parts?
    best regards

    ReplyDelete

    1. Both. Home grown yes. Replicator to fill in the blanks that stolen parts can't fill.
Military and civilian parts both grades.

      Delete
    2. ok, but replicator, and military grade from where?

      Delete
    3. Remember, they've been finding and salvaging ships for the past 7 centuries. From them they can yank out and try to refurbish military hardware. The same for replicators.
Replicators can make civilian grade components if they have them in memory and if the user has the proper keys.
Also, the recent addition of El Dorado to their stable is a major game changer. I explained it a bit in the books. I'll get into it more and more in future books until you get to see it for yourselves. :)

  6. Does anyone know what the big revision was? Because I must have missed it.

    1. Revision: I made some errors in Pirate Rage and corrected them.
-Mixing up B-97C with B for instance.
-I goofed up the Prowler jumps too.
-Jory Gray being a LCMDR instead of a lieutenant. (I had him promoted twice)
A few other things here and there.
-For Bek I had them as just having a cruiser fleet with 1 BB The 'Admiral Irons' as the flagship. But after working with the betas we scaled up the size of Bek and the size of their fleet to compensate. You never saw the old version though I might have accidentally mentioned it.
-I ran into a similar issue with Horath. Originally I had gamed out only 1 squadron of capital ships. But the more I thought about it, the more I expanded their reach and therefore the number and types of ships they brought home to be rebuilt. So the fleet grew from what I had in mind.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Progress report: EE is coming along slowly. I'm stuck in chapter 22 right now, right at the beginning. The rest of the chapter and the following 2 chapters are already done. I'm just trying to work out a few things in this 1 scene... but I'm not making much headway. :P

  7. I've just finished reading "Retribution". Really good book, nice sequel to the previous ones. I couldn't wait for it and now I can't wait for the next.

I like how the story goes on multiple fronts, not just "Plot A" and "sub-plot B". It gives realism, makes the reader think it's a real Universe, with real people, who have more to do than just fly ships in one direction.

Federation Reborn is also a much better series than The Wandering Engineer. More characters, more happening (faster pace), and your writing style has improved a lot (much fewer "its" vs "it's" mistakes). Keep going! The only nagging error I still see is mistaking "complement" (the number that completes something) for "compliment" (praise, congratulation). It might be nice to get a crew compliment, but ships need to be manned by a crew complement. :-)

    1. Thank you! You made my morning. Please post a review if you haven't already. Every little bit helps.

Complement: Ayeyup, synonyms are still my kryptonite...

  8. I would love to see a side story about the finding of the Battle Moon by the Horath empire. I think as a full stand alone short book 200-250 pages it will do well. Also it would be a good chance to build up a great towering navel hero for the horath empire that can be defeated later as a soul crushing blow to moral. There last hope in defeating irons that they move from sigma sector to protect the empire kind of thing. Just an idea. You could go into a ton of details on how the worked around engineering roadblocks how they convinced the sleeps to start working with them. how they got around implant lockouts and suicide switches. A pretty awesome book waiting to be written.

  9. Thank you for sharing your imagination and the universe of the Federation Reborn. Basically just inhaled Retribution. Great book. Your universe is so rich with personalities and some of them really grow on you. Jethro caught me off guard, but I have really come to like him...especially after his cameos...look forward to seeing if his Kits drive their mom crazy with their stealth capabilities and if he will 'pay a price' for not being there to help his wife out if they are rascals. Looking forward to your next book with the patience of a crack addict waiting for their next fix...no pressure..just saying....thank you again.

I poked at J5 a little bit. Right now I'm neck deep into Enemy of my Enemy. I am in the last act. I'm hoping to get it done next week and then off to the betas.

    2. Great to hear. Horatio is a great story potential. I am happy to hear that there is a J5 being contemplated. Will there be a story arc on F platoon alumni? sometimes, I thought you were telegraphing a story arc there as well...Thank you again

    3. :)
J5 has been plotted out for a while, I just had to rewrite the plot when I shifted gears and pacing in the main plot. The other F platoon alumni will pop up as cameos and may have their own short stories from time to time. I wanted to do a story with them but they seem to have gone their separate ways, each following their own chosen career paths. Getting the band back together would be hard.

    1. Enemy of my Enemy was supposed to be the next main storyline of The Federation Reborn, but it got hijacked.
Instead it is the first of the Horatio Logan side story series. I am half way through the third and final act. :)
