Federation Aliens part 1

Well, I was going to work on the 2.0 version of Jethro's armor, but I ran into a snag, Inspire 3D doesn't want to be fixed. I can't reinstall it either because it's ancient (32bit 1995-7) and I have Windows 7 64 bit... which refuses to let me do it! GRR

So, I'm working on ideas for a work around. But since I didn't want to spend my day surfing and hemming and hawing about this or that, I decided to throw this together I modeled these over the past couple of years, plus a ton more I haven't gotten around to rendering yet. I've been rendering stuff for a while before summer hit, I thought I should put them together as a show and tell.

There are a lot of aliens in the Federation (Wandering Engineer) Universe. Some you have seen, some I have mentioned, some I am going to mention in future works. Here is a look.
I based a lot of the models on concept art I found on the web. Credit for the design goes to the original artist, I just took the idea and ran with it, throwing my own ideas into the mix as I went along. All models were made in Sculptris. Most of the textures are placeholders I dropped onto the base mesh to keep me from going insane. (or more insane)

  1. I would definitely not want to meet any of your angry aliens.... :)
And I really admire your skill in putting what you have in your mind to not only paper but also a computer drawing/movie.

    Love your starships :)

  2. I started writing in high school, but I dropped it in favor of my Electronics degree. That died a stillborn death, so I got into 3D modeling.
I can draw as well, but I've never had lessons so I'm not all that great. Modeling is easier, I picked up sculpting on my own, looking at stuff in the forums, and from watching Youtube a little. I actually have a lot more aliens but I haven't had time to render them. (and it has to be very cool out to render or my PC overheats)

A couple people have hit me up to go back and texture everything properly. lol Maybe after book 7 or so... I'd like to do a Congress image for the cover of one of the books. That would be wild. :)

  3. Just wondering if there is any update on the books? Any release date yet?

  4. No info at this time, I haven't heard anything from anyone so I'm not making any release dates again. I had hoped to get PRI back from Mechmaster by the end of the month, but that's a bust. Again. He's so wrapped up in the climax of his comic he's lost track of time. (literally, he lost several days!)
Gord is still puttering around with 13 Degrees, again, no word. Jim has Jethro, last I heard he was 1/3rd done. I asked if he could get it done before this weekend so Brandon could get a chance at it... guess not. No faults, no complaints. It is what it is.

I've been shopping for stuff for the cover of 13. Renderosity has a 25% off sale going...

  5. No worries... It will come when it comes, and a little bit of wait for something good (to ensure it is a bit better) is always good :)

Your updates are very welcome for sure :)

  6. Tell that to the people writing reviews. lol
I keep saying there is a method to the madness, and everything will come together in time. Jethro 2, and 13 Degrees start sewing up some of the loose (lose?) ends.
I am as impatient as many of you to get them out there.
I am in talks with an old Metalwar friend about Afraid of the Dark. He's more into the Unity engine though.
I'm going to go back and shop for stuff for the cover of 13 here in a moment. :)

  7. Chris i can't find an e-mail address so i am leaving this message here in hopes you find it.
I absolutely love your books, i bought every one of the on Amazon and need more!
Bootstrap Colony needs a sequel ASAP!!!!!
I left a great review for Bootstrap and will visit every book to do the same. Pay no attention to the trolls who complain about editing, seriously man, the writing is great and the editing isn't as bad as many i've read in -ebook format....some folks just love the interaction with writers even if it's about editing.
Please keep writing and please keep selling on Amazon....i'm totally hooked now.

  8. Thank you.
Hechtlnjekyll at aol and you can figure out the rest.
I have a sequel/parallel book for Bootstrap blocked out as a treatment, but I'm still busy in the Federation universe.
I have over 60 books cooking or on hold. And yes, the complaints do get under my skin a bit. I was never good with criticism, even constructive criticism. I'm trying to get a thicker skin.

  9. Hey, I'm a BIG fan of all your books (finished all but Jethro so far) and I was wondering have you ever sketched out a map of the bootstrap colony and towns or the vaults on mars? I would LOVE to the layout of them! You describe them very well for the reader but sadly I have a very poor imagination for images. Wouldn't have to be any thing detailed, just maybe boxes with names.
    Thx

ps you need a forum 8)

  10. Hi Adam.
I have some things sketched out for various projects. (I am looking at the map for PRI now.) I'll post some stuff eventually....like one of the starmaps for the Federation.

Forum: Yeah, I've had a few people suggest that. lol
