Semper Fidelis

Sitrep:
I finished Semper Fidelis last Tuesday and passed it on to the betas. If any Betas want to have a go at it, let me know. It's open for the next 10 days. :)
Here is the cover:
Yes this is the insignia of the Space Marines. I had the American continents overlaying the Milky Way but took it out. The ship is the Cutlass class, revised by me. The real model is a destroyer you can find on Renderosity.
The eagle is a 3D scan I picked up from Thingiverse. I tried to contact the maker but I may have to leave a comment to do so. I've considered making my own version in Sculptris but I think I'll roll with this. I've cleaned it up, smoothed it, and tweaked it a bit.

About the book:

Semper Fidelis: Always faithful/loyal.

For the Space Marines of the Federation, it wasn't just a saying; it was a tradition of honor and courage going back centuries.
For the Space Marines of the New Federation, it was something to live up to. Colonel Pendeckle has to deal with the frustrations of Shipping Out. Colonel Harley has similar issues, but she also has to deal with a Marine who has sullied his honor.
Colonel Kodiak has to deal with his first planetary invasion against a tough opponent while also trying to win over the natives. Meanwhile on Agnosta, Captain Lewis and his wife Hanna Clarke learn that some battles do not end on the battlefield and that sometimes it seems easier to fight even when you are safe.
The Marines and the crew of Ark Royal are going to get more than they bargained for when the planet they were sent to conquer sends of delegates to 'negotiate terms.'
Lieutenant Quinn is given an impossible task, one she has no intention of walking away from. The honor of the corps demands blood. It won't be just from the Marines by the time she's done though!

These and other stories explore the worlds of the New Federation as the Space Marines try to relearn old traditions and create new ones....

I've been trying to catch up with my "Vacation To-Do List." I don't think I know how to take a break for long anymore. lol I'm making slow but steady progress on a few fronts. Most noticeably on my animatronic project, though things are going to come to a head tomorrow.
I dunno if I'll get around to more figurine sanding and painting this week though. And the itch to write has already started in, I blocked out 2 more short stories for Multiverse 3 and I've dived into 1 of them. I keep getting drawn into it to add details and clean up what I've already roughed out. lol Like I told Wayne, I don't think I know how to take a break anymore, even writing it seems.
I have been getting caught up with doctors stuff. I went in because I hurt my right arm in July and she's ordered everything but tests for it. (I have more blood work this morning too) You'll be happy to know I'm cancer free for the moment. What that and these new blood tests have to do with my arm I don't know. :P

  1. Maybe she still has student loans that she needs you to pay? I was going to add an "LOL" but then remembered the 5k I still owe for my last journey down the medical rabbit hole and killed the mood. Ah what the heck. LOL after all if they kneecap me they'd have fix what they broke. Can't wait for the new book. Keep up the good work and I hope your arms okay.

    1. ROFL. She's my age...but then again, the way student loans can rack up...
I am fortunate, it took me 20 years but I paid mine off.

The funny thing is, I was expecting "Hey doc, it hurts when I do this."
      Doc: "Well, don't do that."
Instead I've had tests for cancer, blood work for other stuff, and everything BUT tests on my arm. She did offer me a steroid shot but warned it would last a day. Pass.
I'm not sure if I tore a tendon or what. It is slowly getting better, and I do mean slowly, it's been 2 months of constant pain. As long as I don't try to spread my hands apart, put any weight in my right hand and move my forearm in and out, touch my arm, or try to raise my arm above my head I'm good.

I'm curious as to the reactions when people read this latest book. Some of the stories were 'interesting' to write.

  2. 1.I joke, but oh yes they most certainly can add up. 2.A favorite joke of my family. 3. My mother is going through something like what you are, so I kind of second hand understand what your going through and hope you get well soon. 4. One thing you can count on in your line of work is that You Will Hear All About peoples reactions. lol. As per Mel Brooks' History of the World Part One. First there came the Artist, Then came The Critic. lol

    1. Lol
I miss Mel Brooks. He said recently he was going to do a Spaceballs sequel. I hope so.
I think the Orville could have done with more of his humor over the dry whit stuff.
"How many assholes do we have on this ship?"
      "YO!"
"Great, I knew it! I'm surrounded by assholes!" Slams his helmet down. "Keep firing assholes!"

    1. Sorry, I was wondering the same thing for a while with the Betas.
Wayne was injured in a fall so that delayed things. Hopefully he'll recover soon.
I sent SF to Rea Tuesday. I expect it back sometime next week. Then I'll send it on to Goodlifeguide.com for final formatting.
Expect it out in the last week or so of this month.

In other news, I finished the rough out of my 4rth story for Multiverse 3. It is an AD story, pretty dark and brutal but it tells some back story for some of the characters for the sequel.
I'm debating on which story to write next. There are 4 New Federation stories planned, plus a Bootstrap story and a PRI story, plus a couple of others...
When I hit the magic 300 page number anything not written will get passed on to Multiverse 4. I really should hit the Fed stories, they will play into events coming up...

    2. Well, the follow-up to TGS will be most welcomed !!!
I am hopping that next year will be the first week of January :-)
      What is Multiverse about?

    3. TGS follow up: You are talking about The Turning Tide. That is due yes, sometime next year. The schedule is still up in the air.

Multiverse... you haven't checked those out? Multiverse is a series of short story anthology books I've put out. I usually write them around the holidays since it is easier to write a series of short stories over a full novel during that time.
I'm in the middle of the third book now. I put everything from fantasy to scifi stories in them.
There is a story for Bootstrap in 1 of them. There are old stories for a defunct video game mod I'd worked on years ago in the first book I think.
There are Federation stories as well! Bringer of Fire and Light, plus others.

      Multiverse 3 so far has:
Afraid of the Dark story "End of the World"
      PSI Swat
      Dragon King
      Labyrinth
...And I'm currently working on finishing Molly's Madness, a Federation story. I have 3 others planned, (Io 11 in Pi sector, Faith and ETMI, Nuevo) plus a PRI story and a Bootstrap story.
Most likely some of the other new original universe stories I'd blocked out will get kicked to the next book. I cap the anthology books at or around 300 pages since they don't sell well.

  5. PS: if any of the Betas want in on them they need to let me know. I'll do a Beta blast about them when I get Molly done.

  6. Really looking forward to the Bootstrap Short story. Bootstrap one was the first book of yours that I read. I've always liked the build it up and survive type stories, ever since I read Robinson Crusoe back when I was a kid. The short story with the Crash Town Group was the best story from MV1, in my opinion at least. Anyway I'll be buying MV3 for the Bootstrap story if nothing else. lol You know you pretty much Have to write out "Bootstrap" every time because writing BS1 or BS2 and such is a bit awkward sounding. Like " That BS story in MV1" sounds like an attack. lol. Anyway sorry if this post makes no sense, the brat-pack brought home the latest plague from school and between the fever and the codeine in the cough syrup this all sort of makes sense on my end. Thanks for the update and enjoy the holidays.

    1. Hi Richard!
Bootstrap: It is in the que.

Brat pack: ROFL oh, sorry, I didn't mean to laugh at your situation, just the brat pack and the way you said that. I hope you feel better.

FYI: I just (as in 2 minutes ago) got Semper Fidelis back from Goodlifeguide.com. I'll be publishing it later THIS morning. It should go live by tonight or tomorrow!

  7. Feeling much better thanks. I love them kids, but if there is a cold or flu to be found they will and then bring to me. And then they get over it in two or three days and mine hangs on for two or three weeks, lol. Can't wait for more Bootstrap and I just bought Semper Fidelis. I'll be sure to leave a review on Amazon when I finish it. Thanks again for your time and efforts in bringing these stories to us.
