The Final Countdown...

Sorry Mike. lol
I keep thinking of that "B" lady in Major League 1-2 who hated that other song. :D

Okay, here we go! I have frozen any further corrections. Anything else that comes in will be logged for future editions.

Pirates Bane has been uploaded to Amazon and B&N and are now in the publishing process. Expect them to go on sale within the next 6-48 hours depending on the site and weekend.

Fresh from fighting the ghost of a terrifying bioweapon On Epsilon Triangula, Fleet Admiral John Henry Irons has taken on a new task, to get to the fabled star system of Bek on the other side of the sector. But to do that the admiral must do what is now unheard of, a long jump through uncharted space. The jump is a test of man and machine. But when he arrives at his intended destination, new challenges await. Old foes, who learn why he will become...
Pirates Bane.

EDIT: WOW! GOING LIVE ALREADY!

  7. Thanks folks.
    Post a review please.
About the red (pink?) text: I did a search for it, I can't see or find it. I searched with Word, but it isn't showing up. And unfortunately 1 I am partially color blind so I can't see it, and 2 I updated Explorer to 11 and Amazon preview doesn't support it, so I can't use it. So, I don't know where it is. Hopefully no one dings me in a review before we can kill it.
I'm seriously annoyed, I've had this complaint before, so I do a "select all" and 'font color automatic black' before handing it off to the insiders, and usually after before I add the TOC and appendix. This... grrr...

On another note, successful flights (I only crashed 40 times out of 50) of my replacement helicopter. The other one (I got for xmas) can wait. lol
    Again, sorry about that.

    1. It's really not as annoying as people say; if it helps, most of chapter 1 is in red, the first paragraph of chapter 2 is in black.

possible an interpretation of the text itself rather than the colour in the file submitted?

Maybe try opening the word file in a webpage or google document etc. who knows?

that said.. DAMN FINE BOOK! you sir, have come a LONG way from the first and the time spent in editing has shown! nice work :)

  8. The switch from red text to black text to red text to black text is annoying. still enjoyed the book, but still the switching of the text color wasn't good. ILL BE HAppu

    1. Give it a couple of hours and then try a refresh, see if the update took. I just went through both manuscripts and tried to fix it. We'll see if it worked.

    1. Really??!! I knew I should have waited until I had the rough draft of J3 finished before I published PB! lol
The next book out should be AD, when ever it is ready. J3 I dunno yet. I need to finish it first. :P Same for GP. Don't get me going on the others.

    2. I am really grateful that you published PB and didn't wait. Thank you! Thank you!. Relax back and enjoy the new year festivities. Once refreshed, go at whichever book your muse is calling you too, I enjoy them all. I am hoping some time next year to see the sequel to bootstrap colony, but I will take any of the books you push out. On the latest book, I was sad to see what happened to the cubs and pheonix, but that just gave better reason for why those Horathians have to be put down like a mad dog. I put out my five star review because I really enjoyed this one. Great work Chris! By the way, thanks for the previous "The final countdown" video link. I like the song. I even use to have it as a ring tone way back. LOL!

    3. And here I thought you were looking for Karmen...

    4. Now that was really funny. It took Dan Crain pointing out the name was from "where in the world in Karmen Santiago". I use to play that game way back... and to have her and Waldo hook up, that is so hilarious! I got a kick out of the" back to the future" names being used. Also, Jory and the other cameo appearances. Good job, Jory says you even got his age right. LOL!

  10. Chris I got some bad news for you. I had to contact Barnes and Noble support due to PB causing major issues with page turning and lagging out my nook color, nook app on two different devices. They tried running it on there side and it caused a major issue with their nook reader. They have labeled it as a damaged content and told me it will take a week or two to get it fixed. I am at the 200 ish page. Boy this is going to be a hard two weeks. Hard I tell you HARD!

    1. I am sorry to hear that. I will check it again. I checked via preview when I uploaded it, it seemed fine. I'm not certain what is going on.
I do know it wouldn't accept HTML format so I had to upload it as a DOCX.
Again, sorry about that. Give me a couple hours and then try a refresh.

    2. It happens it will get fixed and the world will go on.

    3. I just checked it with Nook Preview. The only problems I had were the TOC refused to work, the breaks, and it was slow. (BN changed it's format system and now its a pain) I checked from page 200 on and it loaded fine. Even the sneak peek of GP. I'm not sure what is going on. You might have gotten caught up when I was uploading the corrected manuscript. Like I said, give it a refresh.

    4. Yeah did not try nook preview. If it is running slow on a desktop then on a mobile device with the app running it will be very slow. I mean it is taking 30 seconds to a minute to load every page. I have uninstalled twice and tried it on a android phone my android tablet and my wife B&N Nook Color Reader and they are all doing the same issue. Try it on your phone or your tablet if you have one. I am sure the problem is with Barnes and Noble and their changed formatting. After reading your stories and coming to love your characters I have come to the conclusion your must be perfect. Don't sweat it will get worked out.

    5. I will be the first to admit I am far from perfect. I don't know what is going on, I apologize again. Does anyone else have a Nook? Are you running into the same issues?

  11. Seems the internet can't handle PB!!

  12. I have a nook simple touch, and a nook color, and on both the pages are taking about 45 seconds to turn, and even then the further i get into the book the more difficult it is to actually get it to turn, on my nook simple touch with almost every page turn i get an error that asks me if i want to wait or force close the reading application, and the text does go back and forth. on my nook color it takes about 20 minutes for the book to load, and then only a few pages show, all the rest are blank, until i close the book and reboot the nook, it is weird

  13. I didn't have any problems with Pirates Bane on the Kindle. Enjoyed the story over all btw. First part was a bit slow going lol. I am hoping J3 is next. I like how Jethro finally talk to the Admiral. Still haven't gotten to see Bek yet lol. You are holding that out there like a carrot on a stick!

    1. Yes J3 is next. I was planning on putting a Happy New Year blog post up with a list of projects, but I want to leave PB's announcement up a bit longer.
Right now I'm balancing family with talking with the insiders, but also trying to sneak in a side story called 'Searchlight'. It's a companion piece to J3.

  15. By the way, Pirates Bane do not seem to be linked to your name? It's not on your authors page, and no hyperlink on the authors name on PB, while the others have it.

How will I manage to wait until next one is out... Loved the small snippet of the next installement...
By the way, my only issues with PB on my Kindle (Paperwhite) was some different font/colors, but nothing that made me take notice of it.

    1. Thanks. Hopefully the font issue has been resolved. I uploaded new manuscripts the other day.
Darion has asked the same thing about the linking. It usually takes a week before a new book is linked to the author. Sometimes longer. And yes, I know I've been lax about filling out the author's stuff on Amazon. Still a bit shy about it.
I hate having my picture taken for one. The family snuck enough of me over the holidays. I tried to duck and cover, but they got sneaky after a while. Sigh
I'll see what I can do eventually.

  16. Ahh, I see I am not the only one with the slow page turning problem. I have a Nook Color on rev 1.4.3. I ended up putting this on 'Use Publishers setting and at least I now get a turn page that only takes 10 seconds or so. I'm loving the story, just not the page turning. Keep up the good writing!! Looking forward to the next one!.

  17. I still seem to have the red text in my copy. What do I need to do to update it so I can get rid of the red text? Never seen an option to get an update for any of the books ive bought before. Using one of the original kindle fires not sure if it matters. Already tried removing the book from the device and putting it back on. Still getting the red text.

Loved the book, red text annoying for the read tho.

  18. amazon should send you and email saying there is an update... Then you go to your kindle library online, find the title, then if it shows "update" along it, chose actions on the plus sign and do update. I have a ipad/iphone kindle app, it works the same way. The question is if Kindle has logged the updated change yet.

    1. I just checked my "manage your kindle" and Pirate's Bane does not show an update yet. Knowing Amazon, it may take a couple of weeks.

    2. I corrected the red (pink?) on my end and uploaded new versions last Sunday. I would think the refresh would have come in by now!
If it still doesn't refresh I think there is a way to control font color in the Kindle. There is on the Kindle app on my desktop at any rate.

  19. Ah ok, Ill wait longer before trying again. Rereading the series again anyway. On Ghost station.

Side note question. How old is Irons? I've noticed his age seems to change a lot. One time he says he's 100, next im hearing he's 94. (not counting stasis time of course.)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay.
Irons started at New Dawn at 94 years old not including his time in stasis. He is now 101 at the end of PB I believe.
I goofed in one of the books, putting him at 104. I corrected it in an update. :)

    1. Ok, Rereading the series again, and I finally found it. In the first book New Dawn. He says he is 102 years old. Its the part where he founds out there was a contest of win a date with the admiral. 33% through the book according to my kindle. Its in ch5.

As, I go through Ill be looking for more references to his age.

  21. Just remember this, but does Iron's have a daughter? When he boards firefly in fool's gold, he is asked by firefly if he had a daughter, which he answered as No, that he only had a son. Yet later on in the series we learned that he did have a daughter, and that she was on an explorer ship.

The 2 things contradict each other, since he said he had none, yet than later he said he did have one.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True.
At the time when the Admiral went into stasis he had one surviving child, his son. His daughter's ship had been lost before the war exploring the Xeno galaxy and she had been declared dead. It was a painful thing for him, even more so after... oh wait, um, spoiler... okay, that's enough for now.

      Delete
    2. Ah, okay I get now. At the time he went into stasis his son was still alive, but the daughter was already dead, are I guess declared dead (we shall find out eventually I guess).
      Thanks for that.
