Chris: fyi In Fool's Gold and PP, you made errors in your naval rank and marine rank. In Fool's Gold you made Dan and Janice both second lieutenants (2LT) marine rank not Lieutenant Junior Grade(LTJG) naval rank. According to your own rank structure you index in Jethro,first to fight. In PP you made the Doc Richards a First Lieutenant (1LT) and the other doc's 2LT's , If it was marine ranks, that would work since 1LT is a O-3 and 2LT is an O-2. In your naval rank 1LT is a O-4 and has no 2LT. Your rank structure is wrong in the index. You need to switch Marine O-10 & O-11 around. Poon

ReplyDeleteI think I wanted 3 lieutenant ranks since the anti-aging treatments and peacetime would slow promotions. I'm not sure. Or I may have meant JG was also referred to as 2nd lt. I'm not sure. I'll look into it though. Thanks again.

BTW, sorry about B&N, I just discovered why the formatting and TOC are so messed up. B&N changed the rules to require Section Breaks instead of Page Breaks. Sooo... someday in the future I have to go back and reformat all my books to fix that. (NOT anytime soon.) :P

This Jethro: First to Fight is the second book in the Jethro serie, which takes place in the Wandering Engineer's universe and time, but a few books in. I would read the Wandering Engineer serie, and then do the Jethro one....
Jethro Goes to War (book 1) takes place in parallel to the middle of Fools Gold and extends out 4 months past Destiny's Choice and into Ghost Station. Jethro 2 First to Fight picks up where the last went off.
ReplyDeleteI too recommend starting at New Dawn. It is a bit goofy in some respects, but it picks up in the other books. Oh, and eventually, I'll tie First Steps in better too. :)

ReplyDeleteOk, now after some very long nights (Love the fact that your books have a lot of pages in them by the way... I do read a bit fast...) I am also wondering when Pirates Bane will come out :)
Looking forward to see how the space station will be used... of course to be fully used, the Admiral needs to be found and come back though... And fingers crossed no more political double cross and run the admiral out...
Perhaps time to move the navy/marines/shipyard to the Antigua system :)

Deletei wasn't sure where to mention this but just so you know Jethro first to fight isn't on your authors page on amazon. you have to manually search for the book. for example if you go to one of your other books and click on your name it takes you to the authors page and the book isn't there. on the other hand if you manually search for the book and then click on your authors page from that book it shows up just fine. so you might want to look into that.

I noticed that on Tuesday. Sometimes it takes them a couple weeks to link it to me. I don't know why. I also noticed they put other people's works in my search results.

PB by the way is coming along slower than I had planned. I keep getting interrupted. I have made some progress, knocking out 4 out of 7 pages of notes today. We'll see how things go tomorrow.
It's funny... I doubled the page count in a certain sequel last night. (not hard, it was a 2 page outline) Once I toss in certain scenes... Um... TMI... anyway, it should double again. I may end up jumping into it ahead of schedule. :)

ReplyDeleteChris: I read Jethro, First to fight. I love the book, but notice some errors. First, you are confusing your ranks and positions. That said you make your own rank systems, but for the most part you follow US Military. You added on several mid level ranks 1st Lieutenant (O-4), Captain junior grade(O-7) and Captain Senior grade (O-8) in the Navy. While in the Marine corp, you added ensign (O-1), Captain junior grade (O-4)and Captain senior grade (O-5). Don't confuse them, A marine captain and a naval captain in your system is a O-4 below Major and a O-8 above a Major. In your book you have Hishina Fu a retire 1st Lieutenant and senior to 1st Lieutenant Taylor Warner by date of rank. but later in the index, you have her as only a ensign who resign her commission to marry Yan Fu. You have Valenko a 2LT (O-2)calling Ensign (O-1) Rasha Warner sir, When he is senior, Hishina either retired or resign her commission not both. If she was an Ensign, she would have retired, but if she was a 1LT, she could have retired. Since her father was a general, most likely she served long enough to retire. Pilots are usually commission or warrant officers. For shuttle and support craft they are usually warrants while fighters are commission. Some boats are \piloted by enlisted. Remember there are no 2LT in the Navy and the next rank after LTJG(O-2) is LT(O-3), not first Lieutenant(O-4).You had Janice as a 2LT in Fool's Gold and now a Fist Lieutenant going for LCDR(O-5). She should be a LT going for 1LT in your system. Not almost ready for command like 1LT Purple Thorn. I think you are confusing 1LT marine rank with 1LT Navy rank. You made the G-5 Decius a LT but he was a LCDR in Fool's Gold. In Fool's Gold Kincaid is a supply ship not a frigate. That all for now. I like to volunteer to beta PB. Poon

Hishina: Good catch. She resigned her commission to follow her heart.
Rasha: I didn't find that particular line, but I did find one where he sir's Taylor. I inserted a bit about the Warners also being senior leaders of the station and elders, and that they can sort out who sir's who at a later time.
Pilots: True, I've got that with Hurranna. But right now, pilots are trying to get as much stick time as possible in whatever they can get their hands on. Rank protocol need not apply. (even the admiral pilots from time to time)
Janice: I think I had in there that she applied for and was granted a promotion to LT or 1st LT. I think I had it that she went from LT JG to LT at the end of Fool's Gold, but I may not have put it in the book. My bad.
Decius: Good catch.
Kincaid: another good catch. I replaced it with Hecate.

Between edits I add corrections, or scene ideas I happened to have thought of for a bit more fleshing out of characters.
How do we get the corrections to the copies we already have? Especially if you have them on more than one device?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on your device. Amazon and B&N update at different times. It should auto update for you. Or if not, you can refresh the file if that is possible.
ReplyDeleteMost of the changes are minor. I will be making other corrections to the other manuscripts today or during the week.
Can't wait now. Started re-reading the whole serie, and just want our Wandering Engineer to get some result and recognition soon :)
